This December Church House Westminster is collecting food and other items for Westminster Foodbank.

The local charity, based at Westminster Chapel provides three days’ worth of nutritionally balanced (non-perishable) food to residents in the Borough of Westminster experiencing financial crisis. The Foodbank is part of a nationwide network of Foodbanks overseen and supported by the Trussell Trust.

Church House Westminster first began their support for the Westminster Food Bank in 2017 with the first official fundraiser taking place at their annual Afternoon Tea Party, where the event helped to raise 55.8kg of food and toiletries, in addition to a financial donation which was used to buy additional stock.

Heather, fundraiser at the Westminster Food Bank comments “Our Foodbank has been operating since 2011 and would not be able to continue without the help and support of volunteers. We appreciate and value the time and commitment from the Church House team.”

From volunteering and contributing to the Foodbank, organising charity cake sales and other fundraising activities, the Church House team is fully engaged with various charities throughout the year.

Some highlights of 2019 include

  • a donation for the British Heart Foundation instead of swag bags at the annual showcase event in February,
  • Ben’s half-marathon in aid of Parkinson’s UK,
  • Lauren’s cake sale for the Macmillan Coffee Morning,
  • a pink breakfast to celebrate Breast Cancer Now,
  • Marina, Alex, and Ana taking part in the Advent Sleepout Challenge to raise fund for Church Urban Fund,
  • Christmas Jumper Day where funds will go to Save the Children,
  • Secret Santa with gifts sourced from charity shops, and
  • Elana joining Sleep Walk London to raise money for Shelter.

Robin Parker, General Manager at Church House, comments: “Since I have been at Church House it has never ceased to amaze me some of the things the team has done to raise money for charity. From sleeping out on a chilly November’s night within the cloisters of Westminster Abbey to half marathons, their energy and passion for good causes are limitless.”
